Ten days before the murder of George Floyd, I painted this piece during a ZOOM lesson. The image of a white woman appearing to exude a hint of superiority over this darker-skinned girl just appeared to me while trying to teach my student about how to create tension in a piece of art. After being on the receiving end of an act of anti-Semitism back in 1982, I woke up to the reality of social injustice. That moment changed my life and I became a vocal supporter of a wide range of political activities and theoretical analyses rooted in experiences of injustice shared by different, often excluded social groups.
